Which Stylus is your Style..

There are different types of Stylus Products out there, and it is up to us at the end of the day to figure out which one best suite our needs and will become a perfect fit. All in all, it is ultimately up to us to make the final decision so we still have to choose to either shop smart or shop recklessly. This article is meant to be a tool for everyone in the market for a Stylus Product, or it can be used as a platform to just learn about Stylus' Products in general.

What is a Stylus Product?

A Stylus is basically a Digital Pen, used by electromagnetic or pressurized technology for its application. It used as an application tool for certain devices or computers depending on the linking capabilities.

A lot of times when people mention or hear someone talk about stylus pens, the first thing that they think of is the Samsung Galaxy Note pens, where you have this tablet like phone or screen that you use this small, skinny penlike instrument to draw or use as an action activator on the screen. Basically using a touchscreen device with an instrument and not your hand. I like to describe it as a hovering cursor over the screen. They also like to come in what we call "multifunctional pen" form. This is when it offers different uses or tools that sometimes come with it a flashlight, pen, phone holder and touch screen capability. The end of the product is made of a rubber dome, that when used, basically mimics your finger, and is a product that can be used on any touchscreen device. But, Be very careful with these products because they have a tendency to break over time. So for a user who has to do high volume editing or administrative work, this might not be the pen for you, but for a casual everyday social user, this stylus would definitely suffice.

Next, for those of us who don't have a stylus-enabled device, we a have Fine Point Styluses. This is basically like a multifunctional stylus, except it is built much better, usually in all aluminum with a rubber grip, and have a tendency to be much safer and more responsive. What I mean by safe is that, compared to the multifunctional pens, they don't over time start to scrape the touch screen like the multifunctional pens do when the rubber dome (the tip) begins to wear down and then your left with the metal frame of the pen that starts to scrape and leave damage when used. The best part about the Fine Point tips is that they are transparent so you can see through them, which allows you to be much more accurate with the ballpoint that is actually attached to the transparent tip. The other positive with the Fine Point Stylus is that they are pretty inexpensive these days compared to when they first came out.

Now we have a type of Fine Point Stylus that actually has a USB port built into the back end of it, which means that it actually has a battery inside of it. These styluses usually come with a button, usually closed to the back end that is followed by a led light that comes on after the stylus has been turned on. Once the stylus has been turned on you can now begin to use it. Now, these type of Fine Point Styluses have the same functions as a normal fine point stylus, except the only difference is that they usually don't have the clear plastic tip on the end of the fine point. So this lack of, makes it a true Fine Point Stylus and because of that it can be more accurate when you use it, just make sure if you get one that has a plastic fine point tip that you keep an eye on it once it starts to wear down because it can possibly begin to leave scrapes on the screen. It also has a tendency to have a hard time leaving solid lines, so for a user who likes to draw or is in the art field, this might not be the stylus for you. One more important note is that with these specific types, in most case they can only be used for the device that it is made for.

Next, we have the Wacom Stylus Pen, which is pretty impressive if you ask me. It has over 2000 levels of pressure sensitivity and is a highly reviewed stylus. It comes in various different sizes, colors and usually with a button on the side that has 2 functions and also an eraser on the rear end of it. Now, this is a pretty interesting Stylus because it usually comes as a package deal, as you get the Stylus Pen and a Touch Screen Pad. Now the Touch Screen Pad itself gets linked to whatever device your using, (usually a computer) and as you draw on the pad or use in whatever fashion you choose, the pen immediately takes over the function of your cursor or mouse on your device. So whatever it is you do on the pad, it immediately gets transferred to your linked device. Now, this is pretty cool because it allows you to customize the actual pages on your computer, almost like if you fused the windows paint program with your home screen ie, then save your customizations to your linked device. This Stylus can only work with it standard device and cannot be swapped out or used with any other products. This is a great Stylus for anyone who likes to take a special interest in what they do and really enjoys there work. It's a great investment, but one that you would learn to appreciate more by using it, and compared to other prices of tablets, it is very competitive.

Electromagnetic Stylus Pens are very popular these days. You usually have two different types. You have one that has no pressure sensitivity at all and on average the other type of Electromagnetic Stylus comes with over 1000 levels of pressure sensitivity, 1,024 to be exact. The stylus that have no pressure sensitivity comes with an active cursor, which can make the experience nice, smooth and very responsive. They also come with the side button eraser and the most important tool, the palm rejection tool. This means when you are drawing on your touch screen, the stylus allows you to rest your palm on the pad as you draw or use the pen. This makes this stylus perfect for an artist, especially ones who have made art their career. Compared to other this is more of a high-end stylus for artists compared to previously stated pens, so you better believe it comes with the best fine point you can get. Also, make sure to check you manually to see what devices that you can use this stylus with. Now if you liked that Electromagnetic Stylus with no pressure, the ESP with pressure is even better. It has all of the same features but its edge support is spectacular and its ability to create something as close to real life as possible, is definitely unprecedented. For the price, you definitely get a good bang for the buck.
