All Terrain Stroller Buying Guide

Gone are the days when traditional baby strollers only came in one design variety, engineered for the smooth surfaces. All terrain strollers sometimes called jogging or fitness strollers, are designed more for off-road surfaces like grass, rocky road trails, or other rougher surfaces. Many all terrain strollers come available in single or dual seating and all come with three to five point harnesses. There are many variables that should be considered before purchasing an all-terrain stroller. The wheels is arguably the most important factor in the overall experience of the stroller. Most all terrain strollers have three wheels, while some have four. Typically the larger the diameter and width of the wheels, the smoother and more stable the stroller will move over surfaces. With bigger wheels, the strollers can better handle bumpy surfaces like crushed rock, potholes, and debris. It is important to choose larger wheels, but also ensure they are air filled. Air filled stroller wheels are better at absorbing bumps, especially with the front wheel of the stroller. The front wheel is really important to determine how well bumps and uneven surfaces are handled. It is best to have a stroller with a front wheel that can swivel in all directions but can also be locked in a static position. In addition to ensuring the size and movement capabilities of the wheels, it is important to pay attention to the treads of the wheels. The thread count of the wheel is a good factor in defining how well they handle mud and snow. It is very important to strongly consider how you plan to use the stroller when looking at differently sized strollers. For example, you want to make sure the stroller is not too wide that it can’t easily fit indoors and down hallways. Also consider if you plan to use the stroller in the city, on crowded sidewalks. Most All terrain strollers have the capability to attach car seats securely. Pricing
All terrain strollers can range in costs from less than $ 200 to more than $ 400. All Terrain Strollers Less Than $ 200
Despite the low price range, there are many good strollers on the market under $ 200. When considering a stroller at this price range be sure you select one that has good padded seating with adjustable positions for the baby to lay down completely of sit up. Many $ 200 of less strollers are able to hold up to 50 pounds, and are fully equipped with safety harnesses. Ian often overlooked feature is the handlebar positioning option of the strollers. Some all terrain strollers give you the option to adjust the positioning. There are many strollers available at this price range that come equipped with a swivel front wheel. The strollers with front wheels that swivel, make sure the wheel can be locked to a static position when desired. Consider seeking strollers with an opening at the top of the canopy that allows air ventilation on hot muggy days. An often overlooked feature is a storage compartment underneath the seat of the stroller. Try and look for strollers with a snack tray and cup holder. Many strollers even have a cell phone storage compartment, which is a nice feature when jogging with Bluetooth headphones. Make sure the stroller is heavy enough to prevent tip overs, but also light enough to easily move the stroller in and out if the trunk. Brakes are another important feature to consider. Some strollers offer a one-step brake system, which breaks and releases the brake in one location, instead of locking and unlocking the brakes on each tire.

Mid-Range or Average priced $ 200 to $ 399
Typically all terrain strollers that fall in the average cost or mid-range price offer better suspension systems, for an overall smoother ride. Compared to the strollers under $ 200, mid-range strollers are overall easier to move around and they have a much larger canopy. In addition, all terrain strollers in this price range yield a much smoother ride, because more emphasis is placed on the tires and their ability to absorb bumps. While the lower priced strollers have good padding, strollers in the mid-range price offer more padding and much more room for the child's comfortability. In addition to extra padding, many strollers in this price range offer more flexibility on how deep of a recline the seat can have. While all terrain strollers in the lower or more affordable price range typically can hold up to 50 pounds, the mid-range strollers can typically hold up to 75 lbs. The mid-range strollers have additional "bells and whistles" that may be overlooked. For example, many mid-range strollers have extra foam for added comfort on the handle area. Typically these strollers are easier to fold and lighter overall, some with an aluminum frame for added stability. Another nice feature available at this price range is parent organization areas, with cup holders.

High-End $ 400 and higher

High-end all terrain strollers typically has the little things that in the long run make these strollers more desirable overall. Typically having more padding in the seating and head areas for that little extra comfort. Many will have a much larger canopy than the lower priced strollers. Strollers in the price often have additional storage under the stroller and on the back of the seating area. The suspension in this price range tends to be very good, giving a virtually bump free ride. Some all terrain strollers at these price points offer adjustable suspension, allowing you to adjust according to the activity. Strollers in the higher-end prices will typically be able to withstand much more weight than the lower priced counterparts, as much as 50 pounds per seat in dual seated strollers. There are virtually countless options on the market today for all terrain stroller shoppers to choose from. Regardless of your budget, you should be able to find the perfect all terrain stroller to meet your needs.
