BPA Free Baby Bottles

BPA is an abbreviation for Bisphenol-A. Baby bottles containing this substance have been banned from large retail chains such as Walmart and throughout Canada. BPA is a chemical used for the production of polycarbonate plastic. This is used to make hard plastic sippy cups and baby bottles. Small amounts of BPA have been shown to leech into the water, juice or milk contained in the baby bottle. It has been revealed repeated use causes health problems in animals but the data for the effects on humans is still inconclusive. For this reason, most of the experts agree parents should not use bottles made with BPA to feed their children. There is a wide selection of BPA free baby bottles available. Many of these options are detailed below.

The Natural Nursing Baby Bottle

One of the more common BPA free baby bottles is designed for more natural nursing. The bottle was created at look and feel like a breast. This type of bottle is dishwasher safe and has different nipples to accommodate the flow. These nipples encompass babies up to three months old, three to six months and six to twelve months. The bottle is placed upside down into the leak proof cover. The bottle is then filled, the cap screwed on tightly and it is ready for the baby. This type of bottle is extremely soft, easy to use and allows a good air flow with a special venting system to reduce gas. This means more of the milk will remain in the baby's stomach. The drawback is it is difficult to heat up the milk once it is in the bottle. Heating the milk prior to filling the bottle is highly recommended.

The Aluminum Baby Bottle

Baby bottles made from a sheet of aluminum are also available. They are extremely durable, available in several different sizes and feature nice designs made for kids. The issues with this bottle are the expensive price tag, the cap breaking if it is dropped and these bottles must be washed by hand. Replacement caps can be purchased separately.

BPA Free Glass Baby Bottles

Glass baby bottles have always been free of BPA and they are making a comeback. These bottles are available in numerous color choices and are dishwasher safe. These bottles have a mod silicone sleeve to protect the bottle from breaking. They will fit on the majority of breast pumps and can be boiled. This type of bottle is heavier and the larger size makes them more difficult to use for newborns. Glass bottles rarely leak.

The Silicone Anti-Colic Nipple Bottles

These baby bottles are BPA free, the nipples are made from soft silicone to help prevent colic and they are available in three different sizes. This bottle is designed to be simple to use and works exactly to same way as a typical plastic bottle. It is important to note that there are occasionally bad nipples. The nipples must be checked prior to use to ensure they are working properly.

The Sippy Cup and Baby Bottle Combination

This is a combination sippy cup and bottle made from stainless steel. There are four cap choices depending on the age of the child. The bottle is very light and has special ridges so it is easy for little kids and babies to hold. Once the baby no longer requires a bottle, the mouthpiece can be exchanged for a sippy mouthpiece or a loop or sports cap. A cozy tote is recommend for cold liquids because the bottle will become extremely cold.

The Colorful Baby Bottles

BPA free baby bottles are available in an extremely wide choice of colors, designs and patterns. The majority include a soft silicone nipple, venting valves at the bottom and are dishwasher safe. These baby bottles are stout and much shorter than the traditional bottles. The bottoms are wide to provide a more comfortable grip. The main issue is this type of venting system can cause bubbles to form in the bottle while the baby is being fed.

The Drop In System

A drop in system consists of a plastic baby bottle, drop in disposable liners and nipples. The liner is placed in the bottle, filled and the nipple is screwed on tightly. The bottle of the liner must be pushed upwards to remove all of the excess air. This means the parents save work because the bottle no longer needs to be sterilized and the plastic bottles and dishwasher safe. The main issue is the liner does not always collapse correctly so more air is able to remain in the bottle.

The Venting Systems

The new baby bottles offer a wide variety of venting systems. These are generally designed to reduce colic. There is a unique venting system created to minimize spit ups. These bottles are easy to use and dishwasher safe. The venting system has been effective in helping babies keep the milk down. The issues are these bottle are heavy and add a lot of weight to a diaper bag and do not include protective sleeves.

The Non Drip Baby Bottles These baby bottles are extremely colorful and available with an assortment of different options. This includes with or without gripping handles and with standard or wide necks. These bottles are not only dishwasher safe, they are microwave safe as well. They provide a venting system to help prevent colic and include valves in the nipples. This enables the baby to control the flow of the liquid. The teething nubs were designed to massage the gums of the baby. This type of bottle is easy to hold because of the narrow middle and wide bottom.

The Organic Baby Bottles Organic baby bottles have become popular and do not contain BPA. This type of bottle is made from durable and unbreakable steel with a steel lid. A silicone straw or nipple is attached so the bottle contains absolutely no plastic. These bottles are dishwasher safe and easy to use and hold. They easily convert from a bottle to a sippy cup. The issue is older kids can bite through the sippy straw but this is replaceable separately. These bottles are also heavy due to the weight of the steel.

The Plastic Outer Coating

Baby bottles are available with a plastic outer coating. This is designed to regulate the temperature of the contents. This type of coating is generally meant for glass bottles. The issue is it is difficult to take the coating on and off for cleaning. If the coating is not put on correctly, the bottle will leak.

The Insulated Baby Bottles

Insulated baby bottles are designed to keep the milk warm during feeding. The temperature will remain constant and these bottles are easy to hold. The issue is there is a small area in the lid where the milk will collect. If this area is not washed carefully, the bottle will begin to smell. This type of bottle must be hand washed.
