Enema Kit Buying Guide

Alright, so we have all experienced a bit of constipation from time to time right? But over time, fecal build up can cause A LOT of discomfort! Sure, you can run to your local drug store and grab some kind of over the counter laxative, but sometimes you need something a bit stronger with longer lasting results. A colon cleanse is a good option, but they can be pretty costly, and lets be honest, who really wants to have to schedule more doctor visits? I mean seriously. A good alternative is an at home enema. Enemas are a one stop shop for many bowel related issues. And not to mention, they are fairly inexpensive, safe, and can be done in the comforts of your own home!

So as I mentioned earlier, an enema can be used to treat various colon misfortunes. In addition to easing constipation, they can also be use to provide relief from gas and bloating, for colon cleansing, reducing and/or elimination of internal parasites and candida, and to just improve your overall health and well being.

So now that we know that enemas are a go to product for a quick health boost, lets speak on some general information. Enemas are injected directly into the colon via the anus. Variations of liquids are used in enema injections. Salt water would do the job just fine, but essential oils, castor oils, herbal and medicinal preparations are also used. Deciding on which liquid to use is just the beginning. There is much to be informed about when it comes to purchasing an enema kit that best suites your needs. But don't be discouraged, I am about to give a few helpful tips and equipment overviews so that your selection process will be a breeze.

Quality NOT Quantity

While in the market for the perfect enema, I have ran across prices for as low as 2 bucks ranging to about $100 dollars. Mind you, prices do fluctuate, BUT when it comes to enemas, the pricier items DO NOT necessarily equate to better quality. I have paid $17 for a kit that served me more than well. So my advice is to not count the cheaper options out.

Bag or Bucket?

Deciding whether to choose a kit including a bag or a bucket seems like an unimportant decision right? WRONG! Though you shouldn't lose sleep over something like this, it deserves a fair amount of thought. Lets start with the bags. An enema bag is a pretty practical choice. I have used this option a couple of times. We are often so busy that we are unable to stay in one place for long, so it is a good option to choose if you are planning to travel. You can find bags that are able to carry as small as 1.5 quarts of liquid up to about 4 quarts. Side note: if you are a first time user, I would recommend starting with a smaller bag. Using too much liquid may be a bit intense and uncomfortable for beginners. Bags are also known to go slightly deeper into the colon to make for a better cleanse. Please note that most bags are made of latex. This will be a no-go for those who have a latex allergy. But don't worry, if you are a "bag-lady" (or gent) then there are a couple of other options available to you. You can also choose a silicone bag or a disposable one. Although my intent is not to sway you one way or another, I personally prefer using the silicone bags. They usually cost a bit more, but they contain no harmful toxins and you can see easily through them. They also have a large opening making them very easy to clean! I have found that latex bags are a bit less costly than the ones made of silicone. I can almost bet you that it is because the openings are very small which makes them quite difficult to clean. So needless to say, you probably will not want to keep your latex bag around for long. Now lets talk disposable bags. This will typically be your CHEAPEST option. If you are on the go, I would recommend going this route, but definitely not for a prolonged use! They are your "one and done" option. You will need to throw it out after your first use. Disposable bags are usually made of plastic, so if you are considering this option, I would advise that you check for quality so that you do not run the risk of the plastic breaking down and contaminating your enema solution.

Now on to the buckets. I have seen them ranging from about 1 to 3 quarts. Many frequent enema users, will argue that the buckets are the way to go. I have to admit that they are a definitely worth the extra buck. Well, not all of them. You can purchase a bucket in the form of plastic, stainless steel, and glass. Although you run your own show, I would suggest you skipping out on the plastic buckets. Though there a few plastic buckets that will stand the test of time, many of them will slowly break down releasing its chemicals into your enema solution. The glass buckets are a better solution. They are made with tempered glass, so they won't crack when exposed to hot water. The glass material is purely non-toxic, transparent, and super easy to clean. Just be sure not to drop it or hit it against the table! Lastly we have the steel buckets. I am torn between this one and the glass because they are very similar in quality. Much like the glass, the stainless steel is non-toxic, easy to clean, durable, and will not cause any staining. It's one downfall is that you are unable to see through it. This makes it impossible to monitor your solution during the application. Buying a stainless steel bucket will cost you a little more, but it will last you a lifetime! So to answer the million dollar question of whether to invest in a bag or bucket... The truth is, it is just a matter of preference.

What is the Solution for the SOLUTION?

Picking the right enema solution to treat your condition is CRUCIAL. Before grabbing the first mixture with a fancy name at your local pharmacy, PUMP YOUR BRAKES! First access what your true needs are. What are you expecting to gain from this treatment? I know that there are so many solutions to choose from, but fret not! I have a few SUPER EFFECTIVE options in mind that you can whip up in your kitchen within a matter of seconds!

So, I have heard many people say that when in doubt, always choose salt water. I believe that there is a lot of truth to this statement. First time users or skeptics should probably go with a normal saline solution. This is not to be confused with an EPSOM salt solution. True enough, using Epsom salt will soothe and relax the muscles of the digestive tract as well as treat constipation, but it should not be used if you are currently experiencing stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting. Another cheap alternative would be to mix some baking soda and sea salt to form a solution. I SWEAR by baking soda. It is the holy grail of cheap fixes. If you suffer with high levels of acidity within your body, you have just found the perfect infusion. Lastly, I would propose using a simple lemon juice mix. Please do not mistake it's simplicity for lack of potency. Lemons are in high demand within the detox/weight loss community. This fruit packs a big punch. However, if you have a sensitive digestive tract, I would advise skipping out on lemons as it may cause you mild cramping or irritation.

So, Now What?

Okay, so now the fun part. How do we know exactly what kit to buy? Well, as previously mentioned, we cannot always rely on the dollar amount. There are plenty of boutique-priced kits that aren't even worth half of what they are retailed ,and you have those inexpensive kits that are everything that you could ever ask for! So how do you make the perfect enema kit purchase? Simple. Just remember all of the pros and cons that we discussed, and go with your gut. Good luck!
