Which of Bruckner’s Symphonies do you enjoy the most?

by troop91 · 2 weeks ago
Josef Anton Bruckner is considered by some to have been “born to write symphonies.” Representing the end the romantic era of music, Bruckner shows the extremus and terminus of the Austro-Germanic tradition easing from Haydn, through Schubert, ending with this most peculiarly gifted man. Far from the formalistic scenes and ideas of his predecessors do Bruckner’s symphonies fall, placing them among the most grand to ever be scored for orchestra. The rich harmonies and hellish dissonances of his works show an immense range of orchestral confidence, despite Bruckner’s own insecurities with his work. Right from his first study symphony all the way through to his unfinished 9th, the creative spirit never left him. Unlike the previous poll on his symphonies, this one will include the various major revisions to each symphony he made. Pick up to 12 of your favorite symphonic versions by this great and timeless composer. This ranking was voted into existence by you all!
