Who Should Win?

Our second match of the day pits our 2022 March Species Madness champion, the Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) against the Eastern Meadow Vole (Microtus pennsylvanicus). The Red Fox is a cute, but skilled predator which has made a home in numerous habitats, including our cities, across North America and much of Eurasia, and they are an introduced species in Australia. These animals live in family groups, with the young from the previous year helping raise the new kits from the mother fox. While they are adapting to city life, don't let their cuteness distract from the fact that this is a wild animal that needs its space. To learn more about the Red Fox, be sure to check out https://www.hww.ca/en/wildlife/mammals/red-fox.html The Eastern Meadow Vole is more commonly known as the field mouse or meadow mouse. Though they be small, they are very active, moving around year-round, day or night, eating grasses, sedges, and certain agricultural crops. They are an important prey that feed our hawks and owls, as well as a number of our mammals and snakes. To learn more about the Eastern Meadow Vole, visit https://animalia.bio/meadow-vole
