Who Should Win?

Our next contest pits 2022 finalist, the Spring Peeper (Pseudacris crucifer), against the Eastern Garter Snake (Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis). You may not have seen the Spring Peeper, but you've almost certainly heard it if you've passed by area ponds or wetlands, as its name describes the sounds it makes and the time it makes them, as the males chirp for mates. Adults may weigh just a few grams, but they can call as loud as songbirds 100 times their weight. Learn more about the Spring Peeper here: https://ontarionature.org/programs/community-science/reptile-amphibian-atlas/spring-peeper/ As for the Eastern Garter Snake, this species has been called the "most widespread and ubiquitous" serpent, as it is well adapted to urban environments as well as woodlands, and functions well at sea level and atop high mountains. This snake is non-venomous, but they can bite, so always give them their space. Their diet consists of frogs, toads, worms and slugs.
