Our final match of Round 2 pits the acrobatic Ebony Jewelwing (Calopteryx maculata) against the dauntless Monarch Butterfly (Danaus plexippus).
As beautiful and instantly recognizable as the Monarch is, the Ebony Jewelwing is no slouch itself. With their distinctive dark wings and iridescent bodies, they can be spotted in streams and wooded areas where they hunt for other aquatic invertebrates with quick and agile movements. But you have to respect the Monarch, for its beauty and its astonishing migration patterns spending generations to travel from Canada to Mexico and back. But they need our help, as habitat destruction is threatening the species. Dare we imagine a world without any Monarchs? I can't.
