Which of Schubert’s Symphonies are your favorite?

by troop91 · 2 years ago
Franz Schubert was among the first romantic composers, he had recognized the significance of Beethoven’s proto-romantic works before most of his generation had come to appreciate them, he thus innovated on that style much earlier, showing his skill in almost every genre of music at the time. Schubert was not only one of the most prolific composers but indeed one of the most prolific artists of all time, composing more than 1500 works in his short life. Among the numerous lieder, operas, fantasias, concert pieces, sonatas, overtures, quartets, quintets and the subject of this poll : symphonies. He had begun to compose 13 symphonies, of which he only finished 8. These stretch from his first Beethovenian symphony composed when he was just 14 to his “Great” Symphony in C Major, a brilliant work of titanic ingenuity and forethought. Select up to 8 of his symphonies below to see where your preferences lie with respect to others. This poll is a slight repeat of one I did over a year ago which was, I feel, improperly formatted. I made this here to better settle the matter with all options on one page with a set range of a number of votes to give. Feel free to DM me on my Reddit page for requests for polls! More on the way!
