Spontaneous fires routinely break out in this region. While hazardous to the uninitiated and unprepared, these flames are welcomed by the ecosystem as heat-induced germination and invasive pushback occur during this process.

The shrubs’ thorns are projectiles, chasing would-be berry snackers off with the precision of a hive of hornets.

The shrublands are inhabited by wallabies with large pouches that they fill with dirt and detritus. If threatened by a predator, they will empty their pouches to create a smokescreen as they run.

There are packs of roaming dogs with some reptilian features, such as eye membranes and nostril flaps, that allow them to hunt in dust storms. It is rumored some have evolved a degree of eusociality, as their packs are grander and more organized than most.

Many low-lying bushes and shrubs in this region are known to intentionally uproot in a windstorm, allowing themselves to be displaced and moved. When the storms die down, they put down roots in the new location, allowing for better cross-pollination and proliferation. This is quite confusing for travelers who rely on natural landmarks to traverse.

Zebras born in the area have no stripes, but instead have strange runic markings and spell circles covering their hides. These manifest into arcane abilities, only occasionally under the control of the animal.
