Who Takes the Bronze Medal in this Tournament?

by James Bow · 1 year ago
Before we launch the tournament final between the Red Fox and the Eastern Garter Snake, let's pay tribute to the other two species that reached the Final Four, even as we pit them against each other in this Battle for the Bronze. The Osprey (Pandion haliactus) fended off many spirited challenges to become the Champion of the Birds/Flying Insects bracket. People respect this Bird of Prey -- an acrobatic flyer and diving fisher, and we are proud to steward a home for them here at rare. Maybe you'll spot them atop the Osprey tower on our Osprey trail. Respect also goes to this year's Champion of the Plants, the Canada Anemone (Anemone Canadensis), a popular native wildflower ground cover that people may be able to grow in their gardens. Now that our seasonal trails have reopened (and our year-round trails remain open), maybe you can spot them on your walks this spring -- possibly alongside trilliums and other beautiful plants. Either way, we look forward to seeing you on our trails this year. Both these species have had a remarkable run in this tournament, and both deserve recognition and respect. Only one can walk away with the Bronze Medal, and that depends on your votes. Cast your ballots below.
