One name that immediately comes to mind is Evel Knievel. Born Robert Craig Knievel, this American stunt performer became a household name in the 1970s for his motorcycle jumps over cars, buses, and even the fountains at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Knievel's star power led to endorsements, merchandise, and even a movie about his life.
Another famous daredevil is Philippe Petit, the French high-wire artist who gained worldwide attention for his 1974 tightrope walk between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. Petit's feat was illegal, and he was arrested afterward, but it propelled him to fame and earned him a place in history.
